from Zambia, Africa... Miriam is a young, deaf teenager. She started coming here recently after she was expelled from a Catholic deaf school. Being an orphan, she lives with her brother and sister-in-law here in Itimpi. From things people have told me, she gets into trouble and is difficult to live with at home. One of our teen girls brought Miriam to me one day. (I will admit her sign language, as well as her reading and overall education, are so advanced that I am not sure what to do with her.) I asked her one day what church she was attending, then asked if they taught her in sign language. She said "no" so I invited her to our deaf Sunday services. As she began coming, the Lord gave me many opportunities to teach her the way of salvation, both through memory verses and tracts that I've given her. She is hungry for reading material. God has been working and this past Sunday I was able to talk with her at length about her salvation. She listened intently and when I asked what she wanted to do about it, she told me she wanted Jesus. Miriam prayed a simple prayer asking God to forgive her for her sin. Please pray for the task before us as we teach Miriam and other deaf people how to grow in Christ. Please continue to pray with me for the people of Zambia and for me as I strive to serve my Savior. Thank you for making it possible for me to be here where God has called me. Kristie Washer |
